There is an enduring quality to bridal beauty that has very little to do with trends. For Laurin, that was exactly the feeling she wanted for her wedding day.

Laurin and Samuel exchange private vows

When Laurin married Samuel at The Mackey House in Savannah, her beauty vision was refreshingly uncomplicated. She did not want to look dramatically different from the woman her family and friends knew. She wanted to look like herself, only elevated for one of the most meaningful days of her life. The direction was natural, softly polished and luminous, with an emphasis on beautiful skin and subtle definition.

At Briar & Bleu, we often describe this approach as creating the bride's most beautiful version of herself rather than creating an entirely new version of her. For Laurin, that distinction was particularly important. Her finished look was never meant to announce the makeup before it announced the bride.

A Story That Began in Chattanooga

Laurin and Samuel's story began after Laurin moved to Chattanooga. Through a mutual friend, their paths eventually crossed, and what began as an introduction became the beginning of a relationship that would ultimately lead them to their wedding day.

There is something especially lovely about a wedding that marks not only a celebration of a couple's future, but also the culmination of all the ordinary moments that brought them there. The introduction, the early conversations, the growing familiarity and the life built together all become part of the significance of that morning.

By the time Laurin sat down for her wedding-day beauty, the anticipation was no longer about wondering what the future might hold. She was preparing to step into a day that had already been a long time in the making.

Creating Laurin's Bridal Look

Laurin chose not to have a bridal preview, which made our initial consultation an especially important part of the process. Without a trial appointment to physically test the look beforehand, understanding her preferences, her comfort level with makeup and the feeling she wanted to have when she looked in the mirror became the foundation for the design.

Her request was clear: minimal coverage, fresh skin and a natural glow.

The challenge with a minimal bridal look is that simplicity requires an enormous amount of intention. When there are fewer layers and less obvious definition, every detail matters. The complexion has to be perfected without looking overly covered. Bronzer and blush have to bring dimension without becoming visible as separate elements. The eyes need enough definition to photograph beautifully while remaining soft enough to feel like the bride.

For Laurin's complexion, we began with VIEVE Skin Nova before applying a thin layer of NARS Radiant Foundation to create a softly perfected base. VIEVE Cream Bronzer added warmth and subtle structure, while Rare Beauty blush brought a natural flush back into the skin. VIEVE cream bronzer, Too Faced powder bronzer, and the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette were used to add additional dimension and that softly diffused quality that works so beautifully in both natural light and photographs.

The result was skin that retained its natural character while appearing rested, radiant and beautifully even.

For the eyes, Natasha Denona's Soft Eyeshadow Palette gave us the ability to create definition without introducing anything too dramatic. Her brows were softly shaped with Benefit Brow Pomade, and half strip lashes added just enough emphasis along the lash line to open the eyes without making the lashes themselves the focal point.

The finishing touches were equally intentional. VIEVE Setting Spray helped everything settle into the skin, while D'Alba First Spray Serum added the final veil of luminosity.

Nothing about the finished makeup was intended to look complicated. In fact, that was the point.

It looked effortless because the details had been carefully considered.

Soft, Refined Hair

The same philosophy carried through into Laurin's hair.

Senior Hair Stylist for Briar & Bleu, Jordan Posey, created refined curls that felt romantic and feminine while maintaining the relaxed quality that made the entire beauty look feel cohesive. The hair had enough structure to feel special for the occasion, but not so much that it appeared overly formal or disconnected from Laurin herself.

Together, the hair and makeup created a balance that is at the heart of the Briar & Bleu aesthetic: polished without being precious, romantic without being overly sweet and timeless without feeling dated.

The beauty look belonged to Laurin.

It did not compete with her dress, the setting or the emotion of the day. It simply brought all of those elements together.

The Beauty of Looking Like Yourself

One of the things we love most about natural bridal beauty is that it asks us to pay attention to the person rather than the transformation.

There is a temptation in bridal beauty to think that a wedding day requires something dramatically different. More makeup, more contour, more volume, more everything. But there is another way to approach the experience, one that begins with the belief that a bride does not need to become someone else simply because she is getting married.

Laurin's look was designed around that belief.
